I know I said that I would not make anything that was not a UFO. BUT...My LQS is starting a new group of projects using 2 1/2 inch strips or "Jelly Rolls". They are not a big fan of Moda, sorry Moda, so that have "jelly rolls" available from other companies. I bought a black and white one from them to support them. I loved the fabrics but the cutting was very bad. Here are a few pictures of what the strips looked like when I opened up the bundle. The top edges are straight on the line at the top. You can see the bottom edge gets too skinny on one part and too fat on another. This is on the same strip and ALL the strips were this way. I was very sad by this. But I worked ahead anyway.
I added two red strips, I will use this red as the thin inner border, and two red, white, and black strips. The R,W, & B strips are the same fabric that I will be using for the outer border. I added a 2 1/2 inch red square to the end of all the strips except for the two red strips to them I added black squares.
Here is the one picture I snapped at my LQS while I was on my first row, the LONGEST row.
This is what it looked like when I got done that night. It is not trimmed or ironed.
Freshly finished top!!
This is the fabric I picked for the back. Happy Joann's fabric. I thing it will be great.

Oh, I really love this! There is something about black/white and a touch of a color to make a striking quilt - well done.
ReplyDeleteWow! Wonderful quilt.
ReplyDeleteIt is just plain fun to make a jelly roll race quilt. Sorry your strips were not even.
ReplyDeleteI very much like how you handled those fabrics. The bits of red just make the whole thing very special.
ReplyDeleteNow, this one I love! Our guild did this project last year but I decided not to do it because I did not like the super scrappy look. The squares you added make all the difference!
ReplyDeleteThis is a great quilt! I love black, white, red and strip quilts. Love this quilt.
