I knew as soon as I saw the above picture advertising the hop I wanted to do exactly that picture with my own spin on it. I love fall and falling leaves so it is a perfect fit. I went to a LQS and found a piece of fall fabric covered in leaves. I took a piece of Heat and Bond and ironed it on the back. Then I sat and cut out individual leaves. It took a while. I freehand drew a tree trunk and ironed it to the fabric block. Then I ironed all the leaves where I wanted them. At the bottom there is a piece of the leaf fabric that I trimmed into a pile.
Here is my my 12.5 inch unfinished block. I call it "LEAF ME IN A PILE".
I wish I had time to finish the block but my son and his wife moved in this weekend. No rest for the mommy! So maybe sometime this week I will get to it.
I also have a giveaway. I have a stack of 5 inch squares made up out of my fall stash fabric. I have no picture to show you right now and it is hard to enter a give away when you have no idea what you are entering for. But you will like it and I will add a few extras. I am hoping to have my Internet up tomorrow or the next day so as soon as posting is easier for me I will post pictures. If you want to be entered into the give away post a comment telling me which piece of technology is your favorite. Is it your cell phone, tv, computer, ATM machine? For an extra entry post a second comment telling me you are a new or existing follower.
Thank you for stopping by and go play in the leaves, have some apple cider and hug a kid.

AC hands down. I grew up without air conditioning and the summers could be quite brutal. It wasn't until I graduated college (no ac there either) that I had it everywhere. It was hard to get used to. My sinuses would dry up, my eyes would be itchy, and I'd get sore throats like the dickens. Then I just got used to it. And now I could never imagine going without it again!!! I still don't like it set very low, but I like it just enough to keep things cool.
ReplyDeleteDishwasher and washing machine are close seconds...can you tell I'm a stay at home mom! I like a lot of today's technology, but I am also probably a Luddite at heart and don't need anything new from now on, but I'm sure we'll be getting the latest Apple phones, etc.. Can avoid it anymore.
Would love to see your block larger - up close. You did a lot of thought and work on it, so deserves a better look. Technology stinks, but I don't think I would like the 'old time'. Best and needed tech - indoor plumbing and a refrigerator!!
ReplyDeleteAnd a follower - hope we get paired for a swap again some day!
ReplyDeleteOoh I love your block - there is nothing like a tree with a nice pile of colourful leaves under it is there! I did leaves too but used a diecutting machine in the end rather than hand cutting but hand cutting is very therapeutic isnt it. My favourite piece of technology has to be my laptop - couldnt join in these blog hops and get lots of inspiration if I didnt have it! Thanks for sharing and for the fab giveaway.
ReplyDeleteSuch a creative block. Certainly worth the effort with all those lovely leaves. The giveaway sounds great.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fantastic block, so creative - it's wonderful. I couldn't manage without my washing machine but I would also hate to be without my computer.
ReplyDeleteGreat block! I agree with Sharon - I'd love a closer look!!
ReplyDeleteI don't know how I'd manage without my mobile(cell) phone - we take them for granted these days don't we??
Beautiful block!
ReplyDeleteHope your Internet will work soon.
Shannon- Great block! I just got a "hand-me-up" iphone 4 from my younger daughter. Her older sister gave her the 4s when she bought the iphone5. I love being able to text my daughters and sister as I usually get a response, whereas no so much with email. Best of all I love my MacBookPro because I wouldn't be able to follow all the fantastic bloggers on blog hops. My friends think I'm crazy when I tell them I've been "around the world" following blogs. I have learned so much from so many generous quilters. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely block! I guess I would pick electricity for my favorite technology...we couldn't use much of the other technology without it!!!
ReplyDeleteI love trees, so your block really appeals to me. I can't wait until you get your internet up and running so I can get a better look!!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you had your iphone. Your block looks great. I hope you post another picture so we can get a better look, once you internet is up and running.
ReplyDeleteLove the block, using a piece of the fabric to make the pile of leaves is brilliant. My favourite bit of technology has to be my laptop, but the one thing I would not give up is my electric iron. I learnt to iron using flat irons that were heated on a range, we did have electricity but my Granny thought we should be able to cope if it went off for a time. How wise she was, I have run my home through many power cuts.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing - I did a tree with fussy cut leaves for my blog hop post as well! (Good taste!) Technology, I love it all!
ReplyDeleteI am now a follower, I vowed that my list was long enough but that block changed my mind.
ReplyDeleteMy favourite piece of technology is the home computer.
ReplyDeleteI am old enough to remember when 'THE computer' had a room - if not a building of its own, The acolytes who tended its needs wore white coats and visitorewre not encouraged!
I love your tree with the beautiful leaves !!
ReplyDeleteThe thing I love and won't like to miss is my computer :-)

ReplyDeleteThank you for participating in the blog hop. What a beautiful and inspiring block! It is trying when a son and DIL move in. I've been there - twice. You are very generous in your giveaway. Someone is going to be very happy to receive the blocks. Again, thanks for participating and sharing your creativity, particularly at a hectic time.
ReplyDeleteWith your schedule so hectic, please don't forget to just beee, sometimes it's overlooked too often when I schedules are stretched so tightly.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite tech... thing is my computer, or I should make it my computerized sewing machine, or perhaps it should be my husband's defibrilator/pacemaker (it brought him back last April 2011 from sudden death). It's amazing to think that for not being a techno girl, I surely am truly attached to many of these time savers. Now don't get me started on the AC, microwave or dishwasher...lol
Jane
My favourite tech--my computer. I don't remember life before it anymore. Lovely tree. Thanks for sharing.
